GAME:
SV vs State College - Game Summary |

SV 8 - State College 3
The scenario played out well for Seneca Valley,
which used a complete-game performance by the
left-handed Helisek and five RBI from No. 9 hitter
Shaine Patsilevas to beat District 6 champion State
College, 8-3, at White Township Park in Indiana and
earn a trip the Class AAAA championship game.
Seneca Valley (20-2), the WPIAL's
third-seeded team which rallied from a pair of
early-two run deficits, will face Souderton at 2
p.m. Saturday at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona.
Souderton,
the top-seeded team in District 1, defeated
Cumberland Valley, 3-2, last night in the other
state semifinal game in Ephrata, Lancaster County.
| The Seneca
Valley coach heaped much of the
credit on Helisek, who ran his
unbeaten record this season to 7-0.
"Kyle pitched
just a great game today," Semega
said. "He really moved his pitches
around. He was up-down, up-down on
their hitters. That's how he's
pitched for us all year. He keeps
batters off-balance. He called his
own pitches, and I'm OK with it.
That's how much confidence I have in
him."
Helisek, a junior, downplayed
Semega's support, instead crediting
his teammates for a 15-hit attack
against three State College
pitchers.
"We did a good job of keeping their
pitchers on the field, which gave me
some rest," Helisek said. "Every
time I went out to the mound, I felt
rejuvenated."
Patsilevas, another junior, was
3-for-4, including a three-run home
run to left field in the fifth
inning. Senior James Burry was
4-for-4 for Seneca Valley.
Patsilevas' homer against reliever
Brook Hart stretched a two-run lead
into an 8-3 advantage.
It
was only the second homer of the
season for Patsilevas, who fouled
off a string of pitches against Hart
before launching a shot over the
left-field fence with two outs.
"It definitely helped me out,"
Helisek said. "It's a big difference
pitching with an 8-3 lead as opposed
to a 5-3 lead."
Seneca Valley trailed 2-0 after the
first inning and 3-1 after the third
before Patsilevas' two-run double
sparked a four-run outburst in the
fourth against loser Austin Borden.
That put the Raiders ahead for good
at 5-3.
"Nothing better," Patsilevas said of
his blast. "It was just one of those
days for us. Everything was coming
together as a team."
Patsilevas has
batted in several places in the
Seneca Valley lineup, including in
the No. 2 spot. He didn't seem to
mind his No. 9 placement yesterday.
"If I can hit
like this, I don't care where I
bat," he said.
Helisek allowed seven hits and
struck out six batters, including
four in the final two innings,
capped by a pair against State
College's Phil Horne and Drew
Yukelson to end the game.
"When you play a team you haven't
played before, you just want to be
able to come after them because they
don't know what's coming," Helisek
said. "I just tried to pitch a good
game."
Mission
accomplished.
